Was also handy when I was living at home.  My folks were too impatient
for dial-on-demand and would bitch about timeouts no matter how many
times I explained that it was normal while the modem was dailing.  So
I turned off demand and turned on persist and ppp_on_boot.  Need a
connection?  Turn the modem on, it'll connect shortly.
