Philosophic question about kernel 2.2.20 - is it to old

Hi,
this is more "in the abstract" question.
I use a kernel 2.2.20 (compiled by myself, based on the debian woody
source package: kernel-source-2.2.20).
It works perfectly on my laptop.
Is there any need to update the kernel in terms of security,
performance ... ?
