Me too. I've seen this question asked, then answered "It's in
/var/log/something". As far as I can tell it isn't. The first messages I see
in any /var/log/ file is from klogd (duh) so anything before that is
apparently lost. Granted, I have no idea just how much comes before klogd
since it scrolls by too fast but I don't think I'm missing too much.

So is it in /var/log/something? Probably. Is it all there? I'm not convinced
and there's no way to check.

Interesting note: In rc2.d, hotplug will run before klogd as they are both
S11. Maybe I'm losing hotplug messages?
