is it a promise ATA/100 or is it a RAID ATA/100 ?

if its a plain ATA/100 try the bf2.4 series:
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/Debian3.0r0/main/disks-i386/current/bf2.4/

the IDEPCI version should hve promise ATA/100 drivers(at least it
did in potato), but for some reason the debian 3.0 idepci doesn't
seem to support it.

if you have the Promise RAID, chances are you cannot install to it,
you may be able to initialize a raid array *after* installation but
probably not during. see www.linux-ide.org.
