Re: Building distributions based upon Debian

Thanks,

I know LFS, but that is not the purpose.

The purpose is to start from standard debian packages, but
create smaller indexes, ie. not taking all packages.

E.g. A small end-user WS could only take some graphical
packages, and games, and some productivity apps, and
that is all, maybe a patched version of the stock kernel
with the low-latency and preemptive patch.

I consider Debian the best distribution for this, there is an
enormous set of stable packages, but it should be
possible to create a subset distribution of the standard
Debian distribution : without any extra patches, except
for the CD indexes which should contain less packages.

Regards,

Jurgen

you _could_ try: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/

it's not debian specific, but, nonetheless gives good insight into
building your own distro.

good luck in your quest! i've always wanted a nice 'lite' version of
debian.. the debian ''minimial install' disc seems to suit my purposes
well.
