compiling USBDNET module

Okay, there's clearly something I'm missing here.

I patched the 2.4.18 source as instructed by the Zaurus HOWTO, then
did make clean && make dep && make modules && make modules_install.

Interestingly, the Debian source package installs in such a way that
modules_install puts modules where update-modules doesn't see them,
if I have the stock Debian kernel installed. Should I report that as
a bug?

After copying the module to lib/modules/2.4.18-k7/kernel/drivers/usb,
/I try to modprobe it and get many, many messages about unresolved
symbols, like:

usb_set_configuration_Rsmp_f7ac69a6
tty_register_devfs_Rsmp_a0ae150d
tty_unregister_driver_Rsmp_2d7ba326

bh_task_vec_Rsmp_284177b8
__tasklet_hi_schedule_Rsmp_60ea5fe7
usb_driver_claim_interface_Rsmp_9aba18b8

A few greps of the kernel source tree indicate that acm is supposed
to supply these, but it isn't even though it's insmod'ed. So what am
I missing?
