LTSP provides a lite terminal for connecting to another machine via
XDM as where, to my understanding, the diskless packages provide
full-bodied linux work stations whose root partition is mounted via
NFS.
LTSP mounts the root filesystem via NFS as well, but, the client file
system and overall-system is as small as possible - just enough to run
the needed services (such as an XServer and say, esd) and connect to a
host via XDM.
