trouble making new kernel

I tryed to compile a new kernel (2.2.19) with 2 changes, I turned on SMP and I
made shure that unix sockets where turned on and I added the eepro100 to the
kernel, not as a module.

When it booted, I got screens full of errors from net-pf-1 which I think is
unix domain sockets.
and the network card did not come up.

If anyone wants to see hte .config just ask.

(Dell 2550)
2 1G PIII
1G ram
2x 36G scsi drives
1 1000MB ethernet (not in use)
1 eepro100 (in use)
