System mail notification

I installed postfix and courier-imap and they are working great, but the 
system mail notification stopped working, since mail is now in ~/Maildir 
rather then /var/spool/mail. I communicate with some users via local 
mail and the mail notification is very helpful and I would like to get 
it to work. Can someone please tell me where to look? I have tried the 
pam login configuration and it doesn't work...
