ESSmodem under Linux

Hi

I am trying to use my ESSmodem (Omnibook XE3) under Debian Linux
2.4.18. 

*) I've downloaded the ES2839_4Linux2_4_18-2mdk.zip file.

*) I've downloaded the 2.4.18 Kernel and instaled it in a floppy (I
have a 2.4.4 kernel in the harddisk).

*) I've done the 

       insmod esscom.o 

   comand. But I get the following messages.

esscom.o: unresolved symbol tty_register_driver_R2f2ffb77
esscom.o: unresolved symbol tty_get_baud_rate_R21cd11b3
esscom.o: unresolved symbol tty_unregister_driver_R547fee4f
esscom.o: unresolved symbol tty_flip_buffer_push_R4e864e97
esscom.o: unresolved symbol tty_hung_up_p_R0423a087

am I missing something in the kernel?

The tty.h triks does't seems to work in the 2.4.X kernels!?
