system hangs

Dear Debianners,

I am running woody in a Athlon 1.4 system, with a ASUS A7A266 motherboard, 256 Mb of DDR RAM, and kernel 2.4.18 compiled with the acpi-20020726-2.4.18 patch. I have a problem which is quite annoying. Some times (typically once a week) the system hangs: no keyboard, no mouse, no crt+alt+bckspace, nothing. Even the ssh daemon freezes, so I can't login into my system from another machine. Apparently the problem has nothing to do with any specific application running at the moment. It is completely aleatory. So, I suspect that it is a harware problem, but... Sincerely, I have no idea where to start to look for a solution. Does exist any log I can start to look at? Thanks in advance
