If for example you have 4GB of memory then even after getting the standard Debian SMP kernels you will only be able to access 1GB. You need CONFIG_HIGHMEM4G=y configured to get to use all of your memory if you have a lot of it. This is the only reason I recompile my smp kernels. It had not been mentioned yet and so I provide this as a heads up. And perhaps someone will educate me that one of the stock debian kernels provides SMP with 4GB of memory capability stock and I can just use it without recompiling. :-) Bob
