Well I guess this comes under the heading of "If at first you don't
succeed....." It seems the compiler was looking for a third party bit of
software for a SiS chipset that I had unwittingly selected when making
.config; I think that DRI requires one under the AGP selections & since
I do not use that card there was no driver. At any rate I deselected all
of the specialized chipsets under AGP and everything compiled O.K. This
should be included in the docs ( or at least in the "help" selection
during make config) but it was not. I am answering this since someone
else may benefit from my trial & errors.
