Hmm, I thought that would have fixed it, but I guess your modem is
stubborn. I think if pppd is giving such weird messages, then it's
beyond my knowledge :(
Hmm, wait a minute, I'm looking at the source of pppd. Do you have
CONFIG_PPP and CONFIG_PPP_ASYYNC enabled in your new kernel? You need
them both (compiled as modules is OK too). Or if you have them as
modules, are they both loaded? (ppp_generic.o and ppp_async.o). Based on
the pppd source, I think this may be the problem (besides not having
ttyS4).
