ssh and X11Forwarding

Is there anything that needs to be done besides setting X11Forwarding to
'yes' in 'sshd_config' on server, using -X option on client, and making
sure xauth can run on server?  Is there some other X config needed that I
don't know about?

I have done all these things, and in one direction forwarding works fine,
and in the other direction not at all (DISPLAY gets set to empty string).
ssh -v -v -v -X shows identical messages for both directions.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated,
