gnuchess is not in Woody. I'm not sure why it is removed, but it may
have been the outstanding bug list (there is one outstanding important
bug, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=gnuchess for
details). You can find it in sarge and sid.
