1280x960 is 4:3 like all other "mainstream" resolutions like 320x240 to 
1600x1200. 1280x1024 uses theoretically "non square" pixels. Normally, 
with 1280x1024, you will see circles being squished vertically while at 
960 the same cricles are actually circular. But then again, you might 
be using an LCD built for the 1024 resolution that compensates by using 
non-square pixels.
