Network doesn't work after kernel upgrade?

Hi,

Im a newbie in this area and i need some help..

I have installed debian 3.0 and network works fine
immediately after the installation, but when im
compiling and installing new kernel the network stops
working. 

Im quite sure that i have the correct modules also
in my newer kernel, but is it possible that computer
is missing some settings if the system have worked before the installation?

I have to network adapters eth0 and eth1.
Eth1 should be set up with dhcp.
