how many users are using it? I am guessing your the only one
using it during these tests..
I have 1 squid box running P3-733 with 128MB ram and a
IDE disk(QUANTUM FIREBALLP LM20.5). just for kicks I downloaded
a 31.5MB file from my machine through the proxy, so my machine
was uploading and downloading the same file at the same time
through the proxy and it sustained about 1.35MByte/second
transfer rate(100BaseT Switched network - Extreme Networks
switch). my internet connection is only a t1 so that's hardly
able to saturate my cache..so I can't really test it with
internet traffic for performance.
the only performance related option I have set is the cache
setting which is set to 24MB.
Are the files on the local network? can you get faster performance
from the same site by bypassing the proxy? what software are
you using to communicate with the proxy?
