Mail activity

I have upgraded to the testing fetchmail, mutt, exim.  I get my mail from several servers with fetchmail and I was under the impression that the mail is then passed on to exim which then delivers it locally.  Then I view the mail with mutt.  Well, when I do a fetchmail, the mail is obtained.  But when I open mutt, it isn't there.  Where can I look to find out where the mail is going on my system?
