see to it that your display manager is the last to start during system
init. (and donot have two display managers in /etc/rc<runlevel>.d/).
type /sbin/runlevel at the prompt to find out your runlevel. if your
runlevel is 2 you have to see to it that /etc/rc2.d/S99*dm is only one
in number.
