For my machine
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.9-34 ide3=0xfff0,0xffff,9 root=/dev/hdg5
is my grub entry. You'll have to try and see what flies by in the boot
attempt. I had a working linux on an accessible drive and could grab the
above out of /proc.
