Well, I'm not sure if this will help you, but I installed alsa with
4236 ISA on-motherboard chip just a few days ago. It worked only
when I enabled ISAPnP in the kernel. Then compile alsa with isapnp.
You should/might not have to specify the ports and irq et al if this
chipset supports ISAPnP.
