It works wonders with printer autodiscovery, support for many printers, etc. It can even do lpd if your stuff won't talk IPP. Though Mac OS X 10.2 is supposed to do IPP (with CUPS, even); Windows (recent versions, at least) do IPP; and of course Linux. Also, lots of HP printer servers do IPP.
