Maya, you should read a little more closely the thread before sending
nearly 100%-wrong advices.

. gnome2 is not in unstable yet (part of it only)

. dist-upgrade is not 'better' that update, they are different and both
explained in the appropriate man page.

. And your line by line stuff is crap. apt-get update download all
recent packages description files and it is better to change everything
from stable to unstable in one time when upgrading (when dist-upgrade
makes sense).
