Thanks for all your help.
I tried "apropos framebuffer" which gave me a few leads that
took me nowhere, I'm afraid.
I tried entering "vga=normal" at the lilo prompt, then inserting
it in lilo.conf. No change, and then I found the line had
already been inserted in the default lilo.conf setup, anyway.
I've just subscribed to linux-kernel.
And then I read Dimmock Nick's posting - he seems to have the
opposite problem if I understand him correctly - which led me
to the Framebuffer-HOWTO (Section 5.9. How do I modify the
cursor?). Eureka. So just let me plough through this geek
gibberish... :)
