Odd error with ping (2.4.7)

I have never seen this before, but my mini-router is now giving this response
following a ping command:
PING yahoo (204.71.200.243) from xx.x.xx.xx : 56(84) bytes of data.
WARNING: kernel is not very fresh, upgrade is recommended.
- From 68.6.22.1: icmp_seq=2 Destination Net Unreachable
WARNING: failed to install socket filter
: Protocol not available

anyone run into this too? BTW, I'm building a "fresh" 2.4.18 kernel for it
now :)
