Omni printing with gs

Hi All,
Has anyone had any luck using the omni printer libraries from IBM? I have
compiled and installed them (Version 0.7.0), but gs (version 6.53) outputs
the following:
$ gs -sDEVICE=omni
GNU Ghostscript 6.53 (2002-02-13)
Copyright (C) 2002 artofcode LLC, Benicia, CA. All rights reserved.
This software comes with NO WARRANTY: see the file COPYING for details.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ERROR >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Error: Could not load libomni.so!
$
I have added an /opt/Omni/lib entry to my /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig.
Has anyone got any clues? It looks like getting gs to use the libomni filter
is the single link preventing me from printing from my woody box. BTW I am
using the omni library as it is a Kyocera FS-1600+ printer.
Cheers
Geoff Crompton
