Re: Apache vs Apache-SSL

Adding mod-ssl-apache would work but it requires you to do ALL of the ssl configuration. There are some examples in the docs that are installed with this module. Apache-ssl comes already configured (mostly) and requires little to get a certificate generated as you just put your purchaced cert in place of the auto-generated one.

FWIW, I gave up on mod-ssl as well, because not only was it more difficult to set up, but it mysteriously quit working right at some point. While, apache-ssl, on another system, kept right on humming. When I tested apache-ssl with the same conf files on the original system, and it worked fine, I said farewell to mod-ssl. I just didn't have time to debug something that didn't work when I had a working alternative.

Obviously, other people's mileage will vary.
