Hi, When you installed binutils it made a comment about the kernel not compiling unless you change a setting in your kernel-source... My memory could be failing me but I think you need to go to /usr/src/<whatever yours is>/arch/i386 and edit vmlinux.lds comment out the line in the DISCARD part which contains .text.exit....
