Hi,

Usually, it is best to put the exact error message in your email. Look at
/var/log/XFree86.0.log or similar.

I'll hazard a guess that you don't have the correct video driver
loaded into your kernel. Run the command modconf and navigate through
the menus till you find the driver you need for your video card, then
load it.
