I can't really see a question in your mail, but there are several ways how 
you can transfer the file to your debian box.

For example via FTP, this implies you've got access to an FTP server (with 
enough space) or you install one (e.g. proftpd) on your debian box, so you 
can transfer it directly.

Or via SFTP, if it's data not meant for public. Therefor you need an FTP 
server and SSH. Another secure way would be SCP, again therefor you need SSH 
installed on server side and of course a client. I'm not sure if putty is 
available for mac but you can google, I'm sure you'll find an SCP capable 
client for mac.
