Huhm, see the following directly from the apache list signup email:
------------ BEGIN SNIP -------------
This mailing list is maintained by the Apache Software Foundation
as a forum in which users of the Apache HTTP server can ask each
other questions, pose problems, and discuss issues. It is NOT,
repeat NOT, an official support medium of the Foundation. Please
take a look at

        <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/userslist.html

to see details about how this list is to be used.

------------ END SNIP -------------

I use the mailing lists for the software I'm running as a 'last resort, last
ditch effort.' I will spend up to a day, sometimes more, scouring the net,
in all it's wonderful mediums, web, news, irc, instant messaging contacts,
list archives, yada, yada... and then I will read all related documentation
I can find several times if I'm still having trouble because I will often
find that I've missed something the first time through either because I just
plain didn't see it, or because given the greater knowledge I've obtained in
hunting for the very solution, the documentation suddenly makes sense. I've
yet had to post to the apache group becuase there is *soooooo* much info out
there for apache and all it's various modules (well OK, there's not really
any docs for mod_monitor but that's another storey) and I've got quite a
complex apache system.

Not necessary, just reconfigure your MTA to use the right envelope sender.
The goal is not to apease the apache people. The goal is to stop the flow
of spam and by using good email practices, one helps, albeit in a minor way
but nonetheleess helps to solve the problem. Consider it doing your part in
the fight against spam.
