When I first installed the new gnome-terminal I got all the problems
reported previously. stopping gconfd-1 (with gconftool-1 shutdown IIRC)
and relaunching gnome-terminal (which should start gconfd-2), solved
these problems.

Also installing the whole gnome2, solve a lot of problems, but you have
to accept the few changes that were done between gnome1 and gnome2.

gnome1 is the past, gnome2 is the future even if right now it's buggy
(but usable).
