Re: Running openoffice as regular user?

I'll answer two people in one post, if everyone doesn't mind.

I realized that. The only problem is that the "full install" as a user
fails with uncountable errors... at least I haven't had the patience to
click through all the errors to see if I get a working install or not. I
assume there're reasons for this requirement, but it really looks like a
design flaw in my unenlightened opinion.
As for the "net install," I haven't looked into it very much, but it
doesn't sound applicable to my situation since I don't have a "server"
available to run it off of.

There's definitely *something* that still needs to be worked on.

_Can_ I install openoffice as an unpriviledged user (the deb, that
is). Last I tried, regular users couldn't install packages via apt-get.

Up until recently, I had been using Abiword/Gnumeric with no
trouble... unfortunately, I have friends and family who sometimes send
me interesting files that would do just fine as ascii but, for some
reason, seem to end up as Power Point presentations... go figure. If I
wanted to see different colored text on equally distracting backgrounds,
I'd go look at the WWW basics class pages at my old school.
While the above, in and of itself, wasn't enough to get me to install
OpenOffice, I've recently been "on loan" to another development group at
work who have developed a habit of sending out design documents in Word
format with fairly complex tables embedded in them. Needless to say, I
missed a lot of information when I opened them using Abiword.

Last I saw, there were no stable packages of KOffice... guess I'll have
to check again.

Wouldn't know... the E-Exec epplet works find for me ;-)
