Let my guess, you have no lines in .mutt/muttrc that indicates that you subscribe to debian-user?
The embarrassing truth is that I didn't either, until today, when I replaced
lists debian-user
with
subscribe debian-user
in .mutt/muttrc.
That switch had the side effect that in the index, instead of the name of the author, mutt displayed To|Cc debian[-user]. You can get around that "feature" by setting $index_format like this in .mutt/muttrc.
