apt-get install gnome-session

To use XFree86 4.x, you need to configure /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. Try:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

or

XFree86 --configure

Read man for XFree86 and man XF86Config-4 for more info.

You could try apt-spy to see if you can locate a mirror with a faster
