I'm not familiar with purify, but it looks like it intended to catch
run-time memory leaks.

$ apt-cache search leak
shows up a couple of candidates

    debauch
    memprof
    njamd
    dmalloc

note: I haven't tried any of the above.

apt-cache search is your friend.
