What do you get if you do 

ls -ld  /var/spool/mail/ngterry ?

Here I get 

-rw-r----- 1 glyn mail   1 Feb 1 16:16 /var/spool/mail/glyn
  ^
This is important! If it's not there then

as root

chmod u+w  /var/spool/mail/ngterry


should help
