Yeah, it's annoying but this helps :
~~~~~~ /etc/mailcap, in the "User Section" part
# put this before the needs-terminal version
text/html; /usr/bin/links -dump '%s'; copiousoutput; description=HTML Text; nametemplate=%s.html

Install 'links' as well.
If you need to deal with MS Word documents, use 'antiword'.
