undefined symbol stat

Hi,


I installed apache 1.3.6 on a redhat 7.2 box.when i start the httpd 
daemon(/apache/bin/apache/apachectl start). The http daemon fails saying 
that there is a undefined symbol stat and exits.

Please do advise me what i need to do get this thing running.
