CD playing problem (xmcd vs. grip or gcd)

Hi all,

I have a problem here I can't seem to find a solution to...
I use xmcd and all works, I can listen to CDs just fine.
When I use grip or gdc I get these errors:

ATAPI device hdb:
Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
  Invalid command operation code -- (asc=0x20, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Test Unit Ready" packet command was:
  "00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 "
ATAPI device hdb:
Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05)
  Invalid command operation code -- (asc=0x20, ascq=0x00)
The failed "Play Audio MSF" packet command was:
  "47 00 00 12 00 2f 3a 16 00 00 00 00 "

My CDROM is:

-->
Uniform CD-ROM driver unloaded

ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes; override
with idebus=xx
PIIX4: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 39

Please, is there anything I may have missed? It's a nameless
CD drive that was just working fine so far

Any feedback welcome.

Thanks,
Alexander
