framebuffer and zsnes
i use woody, video card matrox millennium g200 agp, kernel 2.4.17
about one month ago i recompiled my kernel in order to activate framebuffer.
now my console shows more pleasant char. and i can look at my photos by fbi (though i prefer zgv)
some days ago i downloaded the zsnes .deb pkg in order to show to my 10 years old son that he can do under linux anything he already does under win.
but when i tried to run it i get the starting menu screen but it flickers (i mean the image moves quickly up and down).
i posted on zsnes home page message board and the advise was to use option -w (vsync) but it did not solve the problem
when i kill the program i can read the following output:
debian:~# zsnes
ZSNES v1.337 beta (c)1997-2001 ZSNES Team (zsKnight - _Demo_)
Linux version, please report crashes to zsnes-devel@lists.sourceforge.net.

matroxfb: cannot set xres to 800, rounded up to 832
Joystick 0 (4 Buttons): Analog 4-axis 4-button joystick
Killed
but the mtroxfb error sounds to me very strange since:
debian:~# dmesg | grep -e matroxfb
matroxfb: Matrox Millennium G200 (AGP) detected
matroxfb: MTRR's turned on
matroxfb: 800x600x16bpp (virtual: 800x5240)
matroxfb: framebuffer at 0xE7000000, mapped to 0xc8805000, size 8388608
doesn't it mean that framebuffer uses 800x600?
other weirdness: if i launch zsnes from within an xterm the program starts (though i cannot play using either joystick or keybord, but this is another problem ;-) and if i switch to vc1 i can read that it is utilizing modeline 800x600 at 85H)
I thought to transform x modeline parameters to those needed by framebuffer and added to lilo append line:
video=matrox:xres:800,yres:600,depth:16,left:152,right:32,hslen:64,upper:27,lower:1,vslen:3
(i utilized as an example what is written in the framebuffer-howto)
i launch lilo and then reboot but i can see the initial msg only and afterwards the screen becomes black as if my monitor did not support the resolution, though as i mentioned hereabove, x works with it.
can anyone help me?
thanks
aldo
