localhost connection refused
last week I did a fresh install of Woody
on a single machine, single user desktop that has a dialup
connect to the net.
I have not been able to connect to localhost for some reason
I've tried apache and dhttpd and trying to http://localhost
to either port 80 or 631 gives me a connection refused error
if I try to telnet in I get:
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host
even trying to use lpadmin gives a
lpadmin: Unable to connect to server: No route to host
exim runs fine, fetchmail is ok, procmail is good. actually everything
else is working as expected
I've even tried different kernels 2.2.20 and 2.4.16
Never had a problem like this before and I think I've pulled out
enough hair already :) Just have a feeling it's something small
and right under my nose but I can't figure it out.
/etc/hosts.conf looks like
order hosts.bind
multi on
/etc/hostname
Panda
/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 Panda localhost
I've also tried adding localhost.localdoamin as suggested
from a search I did on this list but that didn't help
/etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny
are both blank
/etc/resolv.conf
has the correct dns for my local isp
What am I missing or what did I forget...ANY suggestions or even
places to look and check for more info would be appreciated
