to yours: yes, it is a very deep sleep mode.

Maybe there's an easier way to do it, but after <ctrl><alt><delete>, 
I just hold down the power button once the mobo starts to reboot 
(before LILO takes over).  Since I shut my box down so rarely, it
isn't a problem for me...
