kernel support for RealTek NIC's

There has been a recent thread regarding the above which
I had hoped would solve my problem. It hasn't.

I've been trying to set up a small home LAN (just two
boxes) with the addition of a SmoothWall firewall. I
think I've enough gen to make a fair go at it, but I
just can't get 2.2.19 kernels to enable support for
RealTek RTL-8139 Fast Ethernet Adapters, and can't
understand why.

The help notes show support is there, but using
'make config', the option to select is not given.
If I use 'make xconfig' again it's there but isn't
highlighted for selection. Most other non-highlighted
NIC's can be brought up by the prior selection of a
'group of cards' option, but I've failed to find
any way to make the RealTeks available.

Am I being more than usually stupid and overlooking
something?

Grateful for assistance, john
