I got Win2k and NT (and sometimes also Win98, bah) running with Samba. Never got any problems since using encrypted passwords (and for that a smbpasswd file). I dont use domain logins.
My experience is: if samba runs with NT4 SP5 or 6 it will run with Win2k. I also got WinXP(Home) to work with my samba installation. Must note that my linux is momentary Suse Linux 7.0 (wanna change to debian but there are heavy installation problems).
