I forget what your original installation was - but 

a) somewhere in startup you need to be doing this. 

        echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

On debian this is controlled by setting "ip_forward=yes" in 
/etc/network/options

b) yes - you will need to masquerade outgoing connections (my stuff is all 
home grown firewall stuff based on iptables so I can't be definitive on what 
you should do)
