you're missing the point. debian is a philosophy, and an exercise of human
will that trancends notions of property. whatever debian can ever be said to
be depends on those who give their energy to it at any given point in time.
it's an organic entity that thrives on the enthusiasm of those who
participate, as evinced by those who have, in thier own particular way, tried
to explain to you. that you have questions, and that you doubt, belong here,
too. we, all of us, are the contributors to and recipients of a great idea
that richard stallman was, i think, the first one to put into words; simply
said, that software should be free. it's almost a zen kind of thing, or
veda/anti-veda, if you will. i know that if you sit calmly, for a while, that
the nonsense of it all will eventually reveal itself to you. it's free,
that's all.
