You should probably try using the pinning feature of apt to use the
iptables package in testing, rather than building your own (as their will
probably be fewer bugs than in a Debian package that has had a few
revisions.

I believe so, you just need to edit it a bit to load the appropriate
module for dealing with ipchains, but I've never used it. BTW, look at
http://netfilter.samba.org to find the HOWTO for iptables, and NAT in 2.4.
You won't find it on linuxdoc ;)
